Unit price perThe Superintendent's House offers comfortable family-friendly hostel-style accommodation for 1 - 18 people in the heart of the Hauraki Gulf. A large communal lounge, fully equipped kitchen, BBQ and just a 7 min walk from stunning Ladies Bay!
Bedrooms & Capacity: Multiple bedroom options available. Book a private bedroom, a series of bedrooms, or the whole house (10% discount for whole house bookings). Ideal for both individuals and large family groups.
Bathrooms: Shared bathroom facilities (no ensuite rooms).
Bedding: Pillows and pillowcases provided. All other linen is bring your own, including sleeping bags, sheets, duvets, and towels.
Style: Former home of the island's most senior Salvation Army staff member. Occupies a lovely spot with beautiful views across the Gulf and over to Coromandel. Only a 5-minute walk from the wharf.

Cleaning Not Included: Guests are responsible for all cleaning before checking out. Please leave the house as you found it. Cleaning supplies are provided. This includes emptying the washing machine and dishwasher
Public Transport: Explore Group offers a regular scheduled ferry service. Accommodation guests receive 20% discount on full-priced ferry tickets (code provided with booking). There is also Auckland Sea Shuttles (water taxi, 021 779 371).
Private Transport: Guests may arrive by private boat but must anchor (no moorings available).
On Arrival: Our ranger welcomes you and transports bags to your accommodation.
Phone & Connectivity: No landline in property—bring your cellphone and charger.
Alcohol Policy: You're welcome to bring alcohol, but we ask that you respect the history of Rotoroa Island, and please do not drink in excess.
Biosecurity Requirements: Rotoroa Island has a biosecurity management plan in place to protect the island's ecosystem.
Private Boats: Guests may arrive by private boat but must anchor (no moorings available).
Rubbish: Bins are provided for compost and general waste. Pack-in/pack-out for recycling — guests must take recycling home.
Once home to the island’s senior Salvation Army officer, the Superintendent’s House is now Rotoroa’s boutique hostel — where guests can book a private bedroom, several rooms, or the entire house (with 10% off full-house bookings). Just a five-minute walk from the wharf and three minutes from the beach, it offers sunset views over the Hauraki Gulf and easy access to the Visitor Centre, Home Bay, and the start of the Southern Loop Track — where the island’s resident takahē family often wander.
