Rotoroa and Auckland Zoo welcomed the arrival of our first breedng pair of takahe yesterday. The sun shone and the birds, named Teichelman (male) and Silberhorn (female), headed straight for the undergrowth, chasing out a shocked weka at the same time. The pair are the first of up to four breeding pairs destined for the pest free island in parternship with Auckland Zoo and the Department of Conservation.
