Translocated Species

While many of the native species found on Rotoroa have arrived under their own steam, using the Hauraki Gulf network of protected and connected habitats as 'stepping stones' in their migration, a select few have been translocated to the island via our relationships with Auckland Zoo and the Department of Conservation.

The following translocated species have been brought to Rotoroa to provide safe habitat and as part of wider endangered species breeding programmes -

-   takahē

-   tieke (saddleback)

-   kiwi

-   popokotea (whitehead)

-   shore skinks

-   moko skinks

-   pateke (brown teal)
