Rotoroa wins Green Ribbon Award
Rotoroa Island has won the 'Protecting our Biodiversity' category of the Ministry for the Environment's annual Green Ribbon Awards.
The Awards, which recognise outstanding contributions by organisations, businesses and communities to protecting the environment, were announced in Wellington last week by the Minister for the Environment, Amy Adams.
217 nominations were received for the awards, with the Manawahe Kokako Trust and Rotoroa Island being finalists in the category, "Protecting our Biodiversity".
Rotoroa Island trustee and chairman, Barrie Brown said the award acknowledged the efforts of a large team of people involved in the restoration of Rotoroa.
"Restoring the biodiversity of the island's ecology is a principal goal of the Rotoroa Island Trust. This award recognises our many partners, from the Salvation Army to Auckland Zoo and our own island team."
The awards were announced on World Environment Day (5 June). Each nomination was assessed by a panel of judges, whose criteria included significant environmental benefit, innovation, and awareness-raising.
