Short Walks & Day Hikes

With a network of walking tracks, Rotoroa Island is easy to traverse in a day. And there's plenty of wildlife to spot, lookout points to visit and beaches to swim along the way.

Perhaps you could start with our North Tower Loop Track. If you take the track in a clockwise direction, you'll be rewarded with great views from the North Tower early in the walk.

Shooting off from the North Tower Loop Track, there are plenty of connecting trails to explore. The Cable Bay and Mai Mai Bay tracks will lead you right down to some of our favourite swimming spots. Or follow the North Tower Loop and wander down through the forest to Ladies Bay – a great spot for lunch and a swim.

Another popular track is the Southern Loop, beginning from the Exhibition Centre about 10 minutes from the wharf. Take a detour to Men’s Bay, before looping around the South Tower, past the Chris Booth Sculpture and over to Ruthe Point Lookout. Most of our walks allow plenty of opportunities to stop at beautiful beaches along the way.

Walking times are based on an average-to-slow pace, and will vary with different levels of fitness, as well as time for a beach or picnic stop.
